Slow Down And Take A Deep Breath

Posted on December 9th, 2008.

I don’t know about you, but life is so busy right now that I honestly feel like my heart is beating faster than it  usually does! :)  Now, I realize that sounds completely silly, but I am serious! I am going so fast and furious lately with everything on my “To-Do” list, that I think my body is close to rebelling! In fact, after telling my husband about the fluttering feelings in my heart, he grabbed his blood pressure cuff and stethoscope to check me out! Luckily, I passed his test as being a “healthy-old-horse” but one that needs to slow down a bit and take a deep breath. {Inhale…. Exhale…. Inhale…. Exhale….}

Just before turning the computer off for the night, I read this post about not allowing yourself to become overwhelmed and knowing when to press the pause button. It was EXACTLY what I needed to hear… which is why this post is going to be short. :) I just wanted to share it with all of you because I know I’m not the only one who feels like a chicken running around with her head chopped off!

Anyway, if you are like me and feeling busy, crazy, nuts, or wired, take a minute to slow down. Force yourself to stop. Go do some Yoga. Maybe read a calming book. Relax and get your worries all out on paper. Just calm down and just BE! You can be sure that as soon as I’m done writing this, and as soon as the kitchen is clean, and as soon as the kids are in bed and as soon as… wait… somebody stop me! {Inhale… Exhale… Inhale… Exhale…}

If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go SLOW down and take some deep breaths. If you need to as well, please go do that and enjoy yourself… At least for a minute or two!

What are you crazy busy with? I’d love to know what is up everybody’s sleeve right now. Be sure to leave a comment and tell us how you deal with life when it gets a bit out of control!

Hi Liz,
Life is crazy busy. Kids activities. Work. Social gatherings. Blogging. Home projects. Sleep (wait, that one doesn’t happen!!). Okay, so life is definitely busy. I’ve recently been trying out meditation in the morning (I should probably be doing that right now…) as a way to calm myself before my day really gets going. It helps. Not unlike yoga (I’m not there yet – with yoga – why??). Anyway, starting the day in a calming manner is very much a positive way to start my day off…

Enjoy the yoga Liz. And “be” in all the moments your life has to offer you!

Lance – I’d also like to throw in there how when life gets so busy, we may end up being spacey and doing dumb things like sending the wrong email to the wrong person! ha ha! (How embarrassing would that be?) LOL! And maybe you need to dim the lights and light candles when you do yoga… sometimes, when I especially need to calm down I do that and of course my hubby and kids just tease me like I’m some weird-o.. but it works for me! Thanks for your comment!

Thank you, Liz! Your post made me stop and breathe with you.

I spent November writing a novel, so now I’m doing all of the holiday knitting and prep and celebrating numerous birthdays and taking care of the dogs and – and – and. Okay, Inhale… Exhale… Yeah.

Hi Liz,
I’m so glad you found my thoughts on pausing helpful. Thanks so much for sharing the post! It IS that time of year when everyone feels so frantic,and writing about it helped me pause :-)
Take good care,

I used to meditate when I was younger and your post has inspired me to try it again. The problem I have when I try to slow down is that I start to feel guilty about all the things I think I should be doing rather than just taking care of myself. Time to refocus and realize that I don’t have to do everything right now.
