My First Product Giveaway!

Posted on November 7th, 2008.

I am one who gets excited pretty easily and today I am REALLY excited! When I first started this blog, I wanted it to be a place where people could find happy, helpful information about health, wellness, fitness, positive self image and basically any other tidbit of info that I thought would be beneficial. I also wanted to make it a “fun” blog by doing a variety of product giveaway’s that my faithful readers would have the chance to win. Well, the day has finally come! My blog has been “alive” for just over three months and today I’ll be posting my first product giveaway, sponsored by Amy Roskelley of www.SuperHealthyKids.com ! {Doing the happy dance!} Check out the video clip below, to see what the drawing is for and then read below to find out more details.

Isn’t that the coolest plate you’ve ever seen? I love it because it’s an EASY way {yes, I did say EASY} to get our kids to eat healthy foods and make wise choices in the kitchen.  What mother doesn’t want that? Wouldn’t you love to sit down at the dinner table and peacefully watch as your kids dish up their plates - with NUTRITIOUS foods in the right portion sizes? Can you hear choirs singing or what? That is a dream come true to me! Since having our own “Super Healthy Kids” plates, my kids actually get excited to see if they can put the “right” foods in the “right” sections. And not only that, they are starting to ask more questions about why “this” is better for our body than “that” is. And instead of me nagging and lecturing them on why we need to eat a diet full of whole grains and veggies, {and wondering if it’s going in one ear and right out the other}, they are happily wanting to eat good foods - because their PLATE says they should! {um, does anybody else feel a little ripped off when a cute little strawberry character seems to get more cooperation out of their kids than your tireless efforts do?}

To all parents who are reading this, pay attention to THIS important fact: Studies have shown that by the time kids reach the age of 10, they will have already formed the dietary habits that they will most likely keep for life.

Amy Roskelley, the creator of this wonderful plate said, “I don’t believe you have to nag, coerce, punish or whine to get kids to eat healthy food. Through education and experience, kids will begin to enjoy eating whole, natural food, and maybe the kids will begin to remind their parents how much they need fruits and veggies.”

So there you have it! There are a ton of great reasons why YOU need to win this plate {of course, if you don’t win you could always go to her site and buy a few!} For every body who wishes to enter this FABULOUS product giveaway, all you need to do is post a comment below and tell me why you would love to have this plate or why you think you NEED it! {For example: does your child flush their broccoli down the toilet and sneakily snarf down twinkies when you’re not looking?}

I want to hear what your “getting-your-kids-to-eat-healthy-foods” stories and experiences are! Share them with us… and one week from today, I’ll announce the winner of this must have item!

Have a HAPPY and HEALTHY day!

My 5 yr old would be all over this plate, I think! It would give him control and make him feel so important to match his portions to the plate.

We make a point of talking about healthy food and living in front of our kids (actually, we don’t make a point of it - it just happens). I’m always a little amazed at how much those little ears pick up. My son gets it and doesn’t complain when I tell him we can’t buy a food because it has HFCS in it. Love that!

My child is too young to eat but I can tell you I would love to have this for my toddler niece because she appears to eat nothing other than sugar!

I need this plate because my family feels that the BIG section of the plate needs to be filled with MEAT (hey, we’re cattle ranchers! We like meat). Maybe this would help us fill up with more vegetables!

I’ll have to check out that website as soon as I get a minute. Finding some different kid-friendly-but-still-healthy meals is one of the things on my todo list.

I would totally love this plate. We eat a very wide variety of food and try to encourage my son to eat some, but we don’t want to make eating a battle (although it sure feels like a food fight with all the food flying!). I am also trying to cut back on my sweets so he sees a good example.

I have a daughter with severe food allergies and it has limited what she is and isn’t able to eat. We can really only serve her healthy, pure foods, clearly a good thing, but not always fun. One of her younger sisters only wants to eat “snack” foods and another is sensitive to dairy foods. We need a way, as a family, to serve a meal that everyone can eat in a healthy way and have it also be appealing in a fun way. This plate might just do the trick to show them what goes where, what they should be eating more or less of, etc. What a great idea!! Thanks for shaing, Liz!

Jenny - I think you’d be surprised by how many people think that meat needs to be the biggest part of any meal! I grew up with a mother who didn’t like meat all that much, so I don’t make it all that often. However, I know lots of people who live for a big plate of meat and potatoes!

I saw those! I want those! I definitely think they would help my kids to eat better. I’ve been struggling with what to do with Bailey. She has become the pickiest eater (especially when it comes to fruits and veggies). I’ve tried and tried to tell her how good, healthy, yummy they are and how much her cute little body needs and wants them SO bad! I’ve been worried lately about what her eating habits will be like when she gets older. I’m glad the study said 10 years old… that gives me hope that I have 3 more years to work with her on this! I hope that a sweet adorable strawberry face will get through to her instead of her begging, nagging, bossy mother! OOOH! Pick me! Pick me! :)

Have I been living under a rock? I though the meat portion was supposed to be the biggest part of the meal. Oops. Sorry kids.
Obviously I have a lot to learn about nutrition. :). I know this plate would be a great way to start teaching my family about nutrition. Trust me, it’s not one of my strong points. But I guess it’s never to late to start.
Pick me, and I promise my boys (5 and 3) will learn something about their personal nutrition and how to be healthier.
Thanks so much.

I would love to win this because my 4 and 2 year olds lean more towards cheese!!! I admit I have tried to use it to my advantage by bribing my kids with cheese to finish their meal (including the dreaded beans and broccoli). Having a plate that breaks down the meal for them would be great since you can’t argue with a plate!
Thanks for the giveaway!!!

I would love one of these plates. I have one child who eats anything you put in front of him. The other child will eat something one time and then refuse it next time. This is great to help the child understand what healty foods they need to eat with each meal.

What a cool plate! My son absolutely needs this plate. He likes meat, cheese, and fruit. That’s it. Will the plate work for adults too? My husband needs it desperately!

LOL! Ashley - What I meant, was that big portions of meat - particularly red meat that is high in saturated fat should not be consumed in big quantities on a daily basis. It’s always better for our vegetable and fruit intake to be higher than red meat intake, but meat definitely is a healthy part of our diets because of the protein it provides. It would just be better to get your protein from leaner types of meat such as chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, etc. Sorry to make you think you were living under a rock! :)

What a darling (and smart!) idea! My 3 year old would love to eat on that plate!!! It can be challenging to get our kids to eat healthy. I am realizing over time our examples do make a difference, though!
I about had a heart attack the other day when I woke up to find my 13 year old daughter heaping her plate full of romaine and tomatoes—for BREAKFAST!!

What a fabulous product! Liz, I have 7 children ranging from 2 yrs to 14 yrs, and I feel like all I do is nag, nag, nag about healthy eating. It’s hard to help them visialize how much of each type of food they should be eating. I’m sure every household with children has at least one “picky eater” that would rather just eat candy…but at our house, we have a few. I would love one of these plates to see if we could make dinner time more enjoyable and less of a battle.

The little eater in our family loves to eat on portioned off plates, so he would get a big kick out of this. I really strongly believe in setting a good example. If we eat anything,(emphasis on the healthy) hopefully he will too. So far it has worked amazingly well. Anything to reinforce that and teach to younger siblings would be gladly welcomed.

For the kids? How about for me as a Mom! I can just see me sitting down with this little plate (and of course playing it up–because after all this probably is the correct proportion we should be eating anyway) So, my kids sit down and ask, “Mom what are you doing?” It opens the window to explain to my kids why I am putting certain things on this plate and it certain places. Well, I have just done my job…I am now teaching my children through my examples…After all—doesn’t a son want to be like his DAD!! And doesn’t a daughter want to be just like her MOM! Well, if my husband and I were both eating on these plates and they want to be JUST LIKE US…we have just given our kids the greatest gift possible. Long healthy life!!
Put me down for the entry..If I win I’ll buy 3 more for my family…

What an amazing idea for that plate. I love her website too. Anyway, this is why I need the plate:
My daughter, who is 2 1/2 is a super-picky eater. Up until a couple of days ago, I would need to make her a separate dinner from the healthy meal my husband and I were having. It was usually not a super healthy food. So Friday was her doctor’s appt. and we spoke to the doctor about eating habits. He gave me some tips, and one of them was to stop making her a separate meal immediately. So we have. I can’t say she is trying a bunch of new food, but hopefully things will improve a little bit every week. She would love that plate. I think it might help us in this quest to help our little girl learn to like healthy food.

My kids really need something to help encourage them to eat heathly (besides me nagging them to) They are 6 and 8 and my six yr old doesn’t like healthy foods. I’m changing my diet and maybe this will help him before it’s too late to change his! Thanks for the giveaway!

Hi Liz. Liz from Meal Makeover Moms here. I love your product giveaway. I have two kids and I’m lucky because they’re both great eaters (I’m a dietitian and cookbook author so they’re used to my many creations). That said, my 13-year old has recently started to assert his independence and is more interested in Halloween candy right now than well-balanced meals! Okay, I must admit my boys are too old for the plate … but it would be perfect for my 2-year old niece, Daisy, who would definitely be motivated to eat more fruits and veggies if she had that cute plate to eat from.

Wow! You all have such GREAT reasons for needing this plate! And it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who has to NAG their kids to eat healthy! Actually, my oldest eats really well but my youngest is another story. I’m excited for Friday to announce the winner. Keep your comments coming!
