Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake

Posted on October 28th, 2008.

My favorite thing about fall is pumpkin pie, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin cake, pumpkin muffins – you get the idea… I love everything pumpkin! The problem is, if I ate all of those PUMPKIN things that I love and adore, eventually I’d end up looking like a pumpkin!

When it comes to all of those yummy pumpkin treats, I really have to use self control. I tend to rationalize eating those things because pumpkin – in and of itself – is actually very healthy! It’s full of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants! It only becomes unhealthy when all of the other ingredients are added to it to change it into a treat.

The good news is, I have discovered a wonderful way to quench my desire for something PUMPKIN. I call it a Pumpkin Pie Protein Shake!

There isn’t really a recipe for it, I just throw in a little bit of this and a little of that until it tastes the way I want it to. Anyway, if you love pumpkin the way I do, you should really give this little shake a try!

In a blender, combine the following ingredients:

- 1 cup skim milk

- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

- 1 to 2 spoonfuls of organic vanilla yogurt

- 1 to 2 spoonfuls of pumpkin puree

- dash of cinnamon

- dash of nutmeg

- ice cubes

I’ll admit… it’s not as sweet as say, a slice of pumpkin pie with cool whip on top. But I’m telling you, if you love the cozy taste of pumpkin this time of year and if you have a desire to be healthy, this is a fabulous tasting alternative, that will keep you shaped a little more like a banana rather than a big round pumpkin!

Enjoy!

Okay that does sound yummy!!!
OH and hey…..I was watching The Biggest Loser a couple of weeks ago….and they were giving a tip…The little sugar free jello cups(that are like 20 calories)..Well the new cool whip in a CAN (can’t think of the name–but the CAN SQUEEZE KIND) anway..they now have one that is only like 20 calories for a good portion of yummy cool whip in a can…OOOHHH wouldn’t that be so good on top of that protein shake…It sure would be a TON less calories than a whole slice of pie…

OOh Krista – That DOES sound good! I’ll definitely have to try that! And Nikki – if you have that shake for breakfast, let me know how you like it! Both of my kids loved it and if my youngest did, that says a lot!
