See. Grab. Eat.
I feel like I hit the FRUIT jackpot this week! A few of my fabulous friends surprised me with bags of pears, peaches and apples - FRESH from the trees! As I put all of my gems in a big bowl on the counter I thought about how easily kids will eat healthy fruits and veggies - AS LONG AS THEY ARE IN FRONT OF THEIR FACE - and easily accessible.
For example: My kids are never going to say, “Hey mom! Can I have a sliced up cucumber? That really sounds tasty to me right now.”
HOWEVER… if I set out a plate of sliced cucumbers on the counter while I’m getting dinner ready, they will sit down and start eating them as an appetizer without me EVER saying a word! It’s simply because: When food is in front of people, they will eat it! Especially kids! Kids don’t usually make a “conscious” decision about what TO eat or what NOT to eat, like many of us adults do. They just see food, and insert into mouth.
That’s why I love having a fruit bowl on my counter… ALWAYS stocked full of fruit. Often times, if they are anxious for a snack and I haven’t made anything, they’ll grab a banana, an apple or peach. Whatever is in there, they’ll grab. It’s wonderful! They eat something nutritious without me having to nag, beg or force down their throat!
Today for breakfast, I saw all of those soft and juicy peaches sitting out on my counter and I couldn’t resist eating one! I added a few other things to make the meal complete and it was DELICIOUS! SO delicious, that I wanted to share!
Bowl of Fiber One cereal (This stuff is great because it is low in calories, high in fiber and very filling!)
Top with 1/2 a peach (chopped)
Drizzle raw honey over it
Cover with low-fat milk and TA-DA!
Oh. My. Gosh! Seriously… It was so good, that I may just have to eat it for dinner also! Enjoy!
