What The Heck Is Hummus? - Video Post
I’ll admit. I’m no Betty Crocker or Paula Dean… and I don’t even come close to Martha Stewart! I can’t stand baking and only do it if I am forced to. Cooking isn’t quite so bad, but still not one of my favorite things to do. Since I have a family to feed though, and since I am so conscious about my health, I do spend a good amount of time cooking meals or making my favorite snacks.
One of my favorite things to snack on is hummus. Whether I’m dipping veggies in hummus, scooping hummus onto a whole wheat pita pocket or spreading it on a “veggie-dilla”… as long as there is hummus involved, I am ONE happy woman!
Whenever I tell people about this divine little dip, many times, the first reaction I get is: “What the heck is hummus?” Because I hear this so frequently, I decided to do a little video post to explain what hummus is and to demonstrate how EASY it is to make!
The recipe I’m showing you in this little clip is actually a bit more fancy than your typical hummus. It is SO yummy though, that you really need to try it. Now before you check out the clip - let me remind you that I am not great in the kitchen! In fact, I considered naming this entry “Clueless In The Kitchen” but decided not to since that sounds a little negative. The perfectionist in me almost decided not to post this video, but then I decided it was more fun to laugh at myself and let you see the real me… because this is who I am… NOT perfect in any shape, size or form!
Chipotle Hummus
1 can garbanzo beans
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons Tahini (sesame seed paste)
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 roasted red pepper (from a jar)
1 - 2 sun-dried tomatoes
1 chipotle pepper in Adobo sauce
1 clove garlic crushed
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon salt
There you have it! Like I said in the video, this is super easy to make and it is super yummy to eat. Be brave and go explore your grocery store for those few strange ingredients and give it a try. I really think you’ll like it!

Hi Liz, fantastic post! I love hummus as well. I can’t believe more people don’t know what it is. They have probably had it before but weren’t sure what it was. Thanks for your recipe, will be giving this a try as soon as I can!

I love hummus too, and this looks like an awesome recipe. The storebought kind is never as good as the restaurant kind; I should really learn to make it myself. Thanks!

Greetings Liz, really nice post! I’ve been eating humus for years and make my own special blend. It’s true not many people know exactly what it is but I learned all about it from a Lebanese friend of mine who was an expert. Not only is this a healthy food but I find it to give me energy for before and after workouts.
Thanks for shedding light in this article and love the video too!
