To Become Motivated, You Have To Find Out What Motivates YOU
As we seek to become or stay motivated in our quest to live healthy lives, it is important that you understand and/or discover what it is that motivates YOU! We are all motivated by different things. I have especially found this to be true since becoming a personal trainer and working with various clients and learning what type of things motivate each one of them.
Some people are motivated by having a BIG event in the future that they can look toward… a vacation, a class reunion, a pageant or triathlon. Others are motivated by having somebody to ANSWER to… like a personal trainer, a workout partner, a spouse or a friend. Then there are those who feel the NEED to live a healthy life so they can feel mental strength and stamina to help them through their daily challenges. And of course, there are those who have a NATURAL DRIVE to look and feel good, and who know the only way to do that is through regular exercise and good eating habits… and that’s all they need to get going.
If you have a hard time feeling motivated to exercise, step back and take a look at why you feel that way. Are you torturing yourself by choosing exercises that you don’t enjoy doing? If so, think of something that you like to do and do it. If you hate to run, but love sports, join a volleyball team. If you can’t stand lifting weights, try a power yoga class instead. If you don’t like the exercise you are doing, you WILL have a hard time motivating yourself to do it. I happen to love lifting weights and doing any sort of resistance training… so it’s easy for me to do that regularly. If you told me however, that I had to go play basketball in order to get a good workout, you would NEVER catch me out on the court! Get it? You have to FIND something that motivates you and makes you feel excited to exercise.
What motivates ME, won’t necessarily motivate YOU… and vice verse. So this week, for your MID-WEEK MOTIVATION post, I am encouraging you to stop and THINK about what it is that truly motivates you to live a healthy life. I can’t tell you EXACTLY what it is you need to do, in order to get excited about exercising and eating right… YOU have to tell yourself what you need to do. YOU are the only one that knows deep down what motivates you in your life.
So I’m curious… after reading this post and thinking about what gives you that inner drive to live healthy… tell me what it is! Is it because you want more energy so you can keep up with your crazy schedule? Is it so your kids will have a positive example for how they should live? Or so you will feel confident and secure in your body no matter where you are, what you are doing or who you are around? Every single person will have different reasons as to why they are motivated to live a healthy life. So figure out what it is that makes you tick… and do something about it!
I can’t wait to hear what it is that MOTIVATES YOU! And as you continue on this week, keep your motivation up by reminding yourself often what the reward will be as you exercise regularly and feed yourself nutritiously! The rewards are WELL worth the WORK!

Gosh, good ? When I read all the reasons we are motivated I felt like I fit into every one of those. I am just motivated to be healthy to improve my well being and just have a healthy attitude. I started really focusing on health this past January and at least 6 days out of the week I work out every morning. It has become a “FUN” routine. Once I noticed my body starting to change it really made me more aware of a HEALTHY life-style.
I LOVE LOVE to work out..At first I didn’t but once you feel your muscles working you get addicted.
I workout to the “THE FIRM” every single day and a different DVD every morning. I love doing just weights, I love high intense cardio, I love dancing.
http://www.firmdirect.com has all the workouts that I own almost ALL of them. (I know maybe crazy but I really use them all—for variation.) Go on EBAY and they are a lot cheaper. You can watch a clip of the exercise before you even buy the DVD. However, they are all FABULOUS…my favorites are….
1. Dangerous Curves ahead
2. Cardio Dance
3. Total Body Time Crunch
4. Boot Camp
and a few others!!!
It actually makes working out “FUN”
I walk my son to school every day. Today he decided he didn’t want to ride his bike but he wanted to walk so we could TALK…Wow..I was surprised. He wanted to talk about health and how important it is to be healthy to walk and use our muscles.
WOW!! It really is true..If you are an example it wears off EVENTUALLY..Maybe not RIGHT away but over time you have little eyes watching you…NOT only LITTLE eyes but my husband is wanting me to start making him protein shakes in the morning and MY HUSBAND…actually said he wants to learn to love fish like I do..
A QUIET example (to others) is sometimes the most effective example EVER…Once your family gets on board with you…it’s becomes a life-style for everyone not just me..
Good luck everyone!!! Thanks for your posts Liz..they really help out LOTS…
You are the best..

ok, mine is wierd…
i am a commplicated person ANYWAY- so i wasn’t surprised at ALL the DIFFERENT things that instantly popped into head-
*motivated by need to FEEL good and LOOK good with more energy.
*motivated MOSTLY without a doubt, by OTHER PEOPLE, all it takes is a little encouragment for me, and i am OFF to a 4 mile walk!
(this is a tad **typical-drama-female* *motivated by someone telling me i CAN”t! let someone discourage me cause THEY feel unhealthy and guilty THEY are not doing something, and i am OFF and RUNNING! i will stop eating for a day or two and live off SHAKES/smoothies!!! (i know that is bad)
*motivated by wanting to be a good example to my kiddo’s and my nephews/nieces.
*LIZ completrly motivates me- when you started this site, i jumped on board, and have been all “gung-ho” since- ok- im done now… thanks for listening!
