You Are What You THINK
If you are new to my site, this article is part of an on-going series I host on my blog, called MID-WEEK MOTIVATION. Each Wednesday, I will post something of inspiration that will help motivate you in your efforts of becoming healthier. I invite anybody and everybody who reads my blog, to post a comment telling me and the other readers, exactly what your goals are for the rest of the week. We all know how hard it can be, to keep a health kick going… especially as the week progresses on… and my hope is that by telling others what your goals are, you will commit yourself and have the inner drive to keep on going.
Most people think that living a healthy lifestyle – like exercising regularly, eating nutritiously and caring for your body, is a matter of physical diligence and physical endurance. While that is partly true, the MAIN factor that leads to living a healthy lifestyle – and MAINTAINING a healthy lifestyle – is all in the way you THINK.
It’s what you THINK about exercise… it’s what you THINK about vegetables (think their gross? or think they’re yummy?)… it’s how hard you THINK your body can exercise… it’s how you THINK you look to others… it’s how you THINK it’s too hard or too easy to live a healthy lifestyle. The way you THINK affects your mind, your body and your spirit. The things you THINK are true, are things that ARE true to you.
{Before you think I’ve gone completely nuts, and have had a few too many spinach shakes, read on.}
THINK about it. If you THINK that you can’t lose weight, you won’t… because you won’t believe enough in yourself to try. If you THINK it’s too hard to eat healthy foods, you’ll continue to buy junk and ignore wholesome fruits, veggies and whole grains. If you THINK you don’t have enough energy to exercise, you are right… and you will continue to sit and lounge around or wimp out during your workout. If you THINK you are too fat, too ugly, too wide, too gangly… you will believe those things and bring upon yourself sadness and gloom.
ON THE OTHER HAND…
If you THINK you can reach your physical fitness goals, you will… because you will work hard, be diligent and give your all to achieving them. If you THINK that healthy foods taste wonderful and if you THINK you are a lucky person to have access to such a large variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, you will eat them with gratefulness. If you THINK you can push yourself harder in a workout… you will mentally boost your energy up and get excited to energize your body and work your muscles. If you THINK your body is beautiful and if you THINK accepting thoughts toward yourself, you will have a positive attitude, you will smile, and you will radiate “beautiful-ness” to the world around you.
As you try to keep your motivation up for living a healthy lifestyle, or if you need the motivation to START, THINK about this… and how every aspect of YOU is the direct result of your THOUGHTS!
“If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win, but you think you can’t
It is almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will -
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to think high to rise,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!”
Make it a habit to THINK positive thoughts regarding your body, your nutrition and your exercise goals. Doing so, will ensure that you life the healthy and happy lifestyle that you want to live. You will feel uplifted and free – knowing that sometimes all we have to do is THINK a little differently to get ourselves to where we want to be.
So, tell me what you are going to THINK about this week regarding your health. Are you going to THINK it’s awesome and energizing? Are you going to THINK that yes, you can do 30 minutes of cardio three times this week? And are you going to THINK that you can push yourself hard enough to actually break a sweat? Are you going to THINK that you can do 30 more squats and really challenge your muscles? Are you going to THINK that you have an awesome body… even though it may not be exactly at the fitness level you want it to be?
I want to hear what YOU are going to THINK this week! Tell me baby!

ohhh i needed this as bad as i am craving a spinache , blueberry and bannana shake! this week has been HARD- ive started voluntering in my daughters class, and royally screwed up my walking schedule, i have not had time to get to the store- so we have NOT had the fresh foods we have ALL gotten used to! I need to start THINKING more positive- and turn this all around! I need to stop being so hard on myself. I am my biggest critic, so if i can think different, i will feel different! i still have not added anything ELSE to my work out… UGH!
it is a good thing I am getting a personal trainer soon!!!

Hope everyone is having a good week!! It’s 103 here but the week is going good!
I had this today for lunch and it’s a great COOL lunch. Try it and let me know what you think…
Chicken-Avocado Sandwich
1 C mashed avocado (about 1 medium)
1 TBSP freshly squeezed lime juice (about 1/2 lime)
1/2 tsp green pepper sauce (I used Tabasco-optional)
1 C baby spinach
10 oz of grilled or roasted chicken breast, sliced
1 mango, peeled, pitted and sliced
4 Small whole grain rolls
1.Combine avocado, lime juice and green pepper sauce. Spread on top and bottom of halves of rolls with 2 TBSP each of the avocado lime mixture.
2. Layer 1/4 C of the spinach, one-quarter of the chicken, and 1/4 cup of the mango on bottom halves. Top with other halves of rolls.
YUMMY!!!
Enjoy!! Krista
It was a great change to my lunch today and it was really good!!

I’m encouraged! I’ll let you know what I keep telling my grade 6 students, “You need to look at everything with eyes full of light and then more light will be added, but if you look with eyes full of darkness then things will get darker”
Keep going Liz! You have me motivated!
Take care,
Andrew

I LOVED THIS! My negative thoughts are my biggest downfall. I have printed this out and will read and re-read it until I have changed my thinking. Thank you for speaking so eloquently on such a topic!

What I will think: I do NOT need diet coke to give me energy throughout the day. I will gain more energy by eating more vegetables for lunch and dinner!
