Now that my boys are older I really miss that time we had together.

I made sure I scheduled outings everyday. We'd walk to parks, go for little scavengers hunts in the park or hit the local library if it was too hot or too rainy. I made sure the boys and I always had two outings scheduled daily to help enrich their lives and get me out of the house.

Thanks so much for these tips. I totally could relate to you as being a SAHM. I also had to have rules in the kitchen for myself. It was really hard for me at first when I was a SAHM. I second all your tips, they have really helped me also.

I'm definitely bookmarking this article! I'm currently weighing being a SAHM vs. going back to work after my first is born, and I'm not going to lie--the fear that I'd sit on the couch and stuff my face all day has definitely been weighing on my mind! This is wonderful--thanks for a great article!

Oh, it makes me SO happy to hear that people are enjoying this blog! I have wanted to write about health and nutrition for so long, but always felt silly doing it back when I was in the scrapbook business! :) I can't tell you how much it means to me to know that people actually read and look forward to my entries. You have really made my day! And it inspires me to keep going. Annie - Way to have power over the Ding Dong! :) That made me laugh so hard! And Krista, I have felt those same desires - WISHING that I could get sick on a certain food so I'd never want it again! Never about pretzels though - my weakness is my husbands famous chocolate chip cookies! Why oh why can't they seem disgusting to me? And Pat, stressful and depressing feelings are the number one reason people struggle with weight...but exercise will also help alleviate those feelings. Maybe you could try water aerobics since I would imagine that you would be able to stay cool and refreshed. That's so true though that tummies full of water help us not want to eat as much....Love that tip. :)

You're right, this is a HUGE problem. I try to not even buy the treats, so they aren't there tempting me, but I have a husband who is always sabotaging me by stuffing the cupboards with them. This summer has been especially bad, because I've also been depressed about all of my grown-up kids taking over the house and confining me to a much smaller space.
It's hard to get enough excersize too, because I have to take blood thinners for my heart problem. The doctor increased them this summer, so now when I step outdoors into the heat - I turn red faster than the thermometer! I just can't tolerate the heat at all. It's really hard to get much excersize in my tiny little house.
One thing I've found that does help a little is drinking lots of water. If my tummy's full to sloshing with water all day, I don't want to be filling it with other things. (A tall glass of ice water helps beat the heat too.)
I'm so glad you started this blog - I'm really enjoying it.

I too crave the blog..It helps to keep motivated. I'm pretty disciplined but just like your post..You find yourself in the kitchen getting the tape out of the junk drawer and find your hand in the pretzel bag instead... **oh and then you totally even forget you even went in for the tape in the first place**(I so wish I would just eat so many pretzels that I would get so sick and never want to eat or see them again--my weakness is pretzels and they are so bad for you) sugar---nada but pretzels....total weakness
anyway...thanks for this post....
I have to have a routine for my eating..
10:00a.m. breakfast 1:00 lunch 4:00 snack 6:00 dinner and 7:30 healthy snack and 10:00p.m bedtime...
CLOCK WORK!!! Keeps me right on track..
Some days get messed up...I don't beat myself up about it because tomorrow is a new day...
Thanks for this post Liz...Its a great reminder to read tips..I love it!!!
I want to not only stay motivated NOW but from NOW and 50+ years from now...

oooo, oooo, and another big- OOOO
I AM SOOOOO glad you wrote this! I have to say since you have started transforming my brain, i have been driving my family nuts- but i have actually STARTED doing 1/2 the stuff you mentioned! I started telling macie a big FAT NO when she is just BORED and wanting to eat... (that is how i AM)
i started "weeding out" the yuck-o stuff, and shopped last time to re-stock everything with a SUBSTITUTE that is much healthier! (my poor husband has given me every wierd "LOOK" in the book... his most recent phrase that sounds like a broken record is... "so, is this healthy for me?" (while he is eating it or drinking it. lol) i have started grabbing a bottle of water every time i start recognizing my "snack needs time" yesterday i PHYSICALLY had to remove myself from a big "Ding Dong" CALLING ME! my self control" has been impressive! I just got my Baby Jogger in the mail, and it will be getting used tomarow- YEA ME! thank you for all the WONDERFULLLLL advice!
my can't wait till you do a topic like this on "errand day/out of town" how to stay healthy eating out/working out out side of your house- type of thing- i CRAVE your blog now!!!
